St Mary the Virgin, Mission Statement.

St Mary the Virgin Great Milton, Mission Statement.

As the local Parish Church serving our village we aspire:

To be a thriving Christian community, declaring and living out the love of God in Christ in the life of our village.

We seek to do this by:

As local Christians, committing to worship, prayer and growing together as followers of Jesus Christ, through regular weekly worship and other opportunities. We commit to being a welcoming community to all who come to worship and share with us and to be outwardly engaged, as the Church, with the whole fabric of village life and activities.

To encourage the continuation of the Christian story with the next generation.

We seek to do this by:

Involvement in the local school with clergy and lay members visiting every week.

Providing opportunities, as we are able, for children and families to explore for themselves the Christian message in a relaxed way. For instance, in the past we have hosted a Teddy Bears Picnic, telling something of the Christian story in a fun and accessible way for young children and we hope to plan more special events such as this.

To share, with other parishes in the Benefice, special Advent and Holy week events, particularly aimed at primary school children.

To encourage involvement from the school in some of our festival services, particularly with musical and creative input.

To draw people to the Church building as a place open to all who come for curiosity, an interest in its history or who seek a place of quiet for spiritual refreshment and prayer.

We seek to do this by:

Being an open church building, unlocked during daylight hours.

Catering and comfort facilities are very important to us as we go forward, encouraging the whole village to see St Mary’s as a church building for them and we plan to include the necessary facilities, a kitchen and toilet that will allow the Church building to be owned and used by the whole village community.

Whilst we seek to be a living Christian community with a building that reflects that, we also acknowledge the importance of our past heritage and so we seek to conserve and publicise that part of our history, in particular with the conservation of the very important Dormer monument.
